ACS breaks negative streak in second year of State takeover

ALLENDALE, October 1, 2019 –– After the second year of the second state takeover, none of the schools in the Allendale County School district received a rating of “unsatisfactory/at-risk” on the State Report Cards. This is a first in recent history for the school district. 

 

South Carolina State Report Cards were released on October 1, 2019. The SC State Report Cards have five overall ratings on the Overall Rating Scale which are used to gauge the performance of school districts and schools across the state. 

 

Elementary and middle schools are scored in the following categories with a maximum amount of points for each: Academic Achievement (40), Preparing for Success (10), Student Progress (40) andStudent Engagement (10). High Schools are scored in Academic Achievement (30), Preparing for Success (10) Student Engagement (5)Graduation Rate (30)andCollege & Career Readiness (25).

 

This year, Allendale Elementary School maintained the Below Averagerating from the 2018 Report Card but made an increase in rating points.  Allendale Elementary saw a rating point increase in four of the five rating categories. The ratings for elementary schools are Excellent (61-100 points), Good (53-60 points), Average (42-52 points), Below Average (34-41 points), Unsatisfactory (33 points and below).

 

Allendale-Fairfax Middle School maintained a Good rating and received a rating of Excellentin the Student Engagement category. A rating of Goodindicates, a school has exceeded the criteria to ensure all students meet the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. The ratings for middle schools are Excellent (56-100 points), Good (48-55 points), Average (36-47 points), Below Average (29-35 points), Unsatisfactory (28 points and below).

 

Allendale-Fairfax High School gained enough points to move from Unsatisfactoryon the 2018 Report Card to Below Averageon the 2019 Report Card. This means Allendale-Fairfax High has progressed from “failing” to meet the criteria to meet the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate to being “in jeopardy” of not meeting the criteria. Allendale-Fairfax High also received the rating of Excellentin the category of Student Engagementand notable progress in the College & Career Ready Category and Graduation Rate. The ratings for high schools are Excellent (67-100 points), Good (60-66 points), Average (51-59 points), Below Average (40-50 points), Unsatisfactory (39 points and below). 

 

Superintendent of Allendale County Schools, Dr. Margaret Gilmore, has set goals for the 2020 State Report Cards and maintains the district will continue to “go from the bottom to the top.” Dr. Gilmore said to principals, “We can do this!”
