AFMS TOWN HALL | SETTING THE EXPECTATIONS FOR SUCCESS

Today, Allendale-Fairfax Middle School scholars participated in a schoolwide Town Hall focused on helping every student start strong, stay focused, and make choices that support a positive school experience.

As we continue through the 2026–2027 school year, we want to make sure our scholars have a clear understanding of school expectations and the support they need to be successful each day. Our Town Hall provided an opportunity to revisit important routines, answer questions, and reinforce the shared responsibility we all have in creating a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.

Dress Code Expectations

Students reviewed the DOs and DON’Ts of our school dress code, including expectations for pants, shorts, and skirts.

We appreciate the support of our families in helping students arrive at school each day appropriately dressed, prepared, and ready to learn.

Morning Arrival & Checkpoint Expectations

We also reviewed the importance of arriving at school on time and being ready to begin the instructional day.

Students were reminded of our morning checkpoint procedures and how cooperation with staff helps us maintain a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for everyone.

We also discussed items that should and should not be brought to school. Families can support us by periodically checking student bookbags and talking with students about bringing only the materials and personal items needed for the school day.

Classroom & Hallway Expectations

Students were reminded of the everyday behaviors that help protect learning time and create a positive school environment:

Show respect to teachers, staff, and fellow students. Allow teachers to teach and classmates to learn. Use respectful words and make positive choices when disagreements occur. Transition safely and efficiently through the hallways. Arrive to class on time and prepared to participate.

Our goal is to help students understand not only what the expectations are, but also why they matter to their own success and the success of others.

Creating a Safe and Respectful School Community

We also talked with students about the importance of treating one another with respect in person and online.

Threats, intimidation, harassment, and cyberbullying can negatively impact a student’s sense of safety and belonging. We want every AFMS scholar to know that they deserve to feel safe, respected, valued, and supported at school.

Students were encouraged to seek help from a trusted adult when they experience or become aware of a concern.

Parents and guardians are an essential part of our school community. We encourage families to review the Student Code of Conduct with their students and continue conversations at home about responsible decision-making, respectful behavior, and being prepared for school.

The Code of Conduct is available in our weekly newsletter and provides helpful information about school expectations, policies, and procedures.

Our goal is to be proactive rather than reactive. By making expectations clear, reinforcing them consistently, and working together, we can reduce disruptions and protect the valuable instructional time our students need to learn and grow.

When students, families, teachers, and staff work together, we create the conditions for every scholar to succeed.

Last call for our June Board/Community Meeting tonight at 6PM in the AFHS Multipurpose Room. We will be announcing recognitions our district has earned and reviewing the third version of our 2026-2027 budget. There will be updates from our Finance, Human Resources, and Curriculum departments as well as Superintendent Dr. Cave's monthly operational report. Lastly, we will confirm updates to our curriculum and discuss the progress of our facilities. Come out to stay up to date with our district.

Don't forget to attend our June Board/Community Meeting tomorrow evening at 6PM in the AFHS Multipurpose Room. Our board will discuss updates to our curriculum and recognize the district for its accomplishments. We will have the third reading of our budget and and hear reports from Finance, Curriculum, and Human Resources. Superintendent Dr. Cave will also be reviewing operational and facility updates as we undergo several construction projects and exciting initiatives ahead of next year. We are excited that with our partner, Optimum Foods, we are able to offer free summer meals to feed students in the Allendale Community. These multi-day meal packs will include both breakfast and lunch and are available until July 12th. Chorus Parents and Scholars, this evening, everyone will enter the front of the AFHS building. Once you are thru the security checkpoint, students, report directly to room 107 next to the media center. (Former Temporary Band Room) Once scholars  enter the room, there is absolutely NO movement out of that room. If a scholar has to use rest room, they will be escorted by an adult. If you are not staying with your scholar , please be back by 820 to pick them up. Pick up will be in the front of the building where you dropped them off at! Absolutely no bags!!! Recently we honored our students at our Middle School 4th Quarter Awards Day. We celebrated their hard work, achievement, and dedication for the final quarter and throughout the entire school year. Students were awarded for Most Improved, Student Ambassadorship, iReady Growth, Perfect Attendance, and Highest Average. We are proud of their accomplishments and look forward to all they will continue to achieve.

Good Afternoon Parents and Guardians,
Field Day will take place tomorrow, May 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This will be an outdoor event for all scholars.
Scholars are allowed to bring: • A towel
• Water bottle
• Sunscreen
• Money for snacks/treats, if desired
Scholars may wear shorts; however, shorts must be loose fitting and no shorter than one-half inch above the knee. Any scholar who is inappropriately dressed may not be allowed to participate in Field Day activities.
We look forward to a fun and enjoyable day for our scholars!
